Article : GALAMSEY
As Ghanaians try to come to terms with the number of Ministers of President Akufo Addo's government, I am particularly happy for Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, for her nomination as a Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. Of course appearing before the Vetting Committee is just a formality.
I think the position fits her you (not to say it doesn't fit others). You know why? Because you represent a constituency where galamsey is rife. An illegal acts that have employed thousands of residents and non residents (children and nursing mothers involved) in the Prestea Huni-Valley District Constituency/District.
One of the reasons the constituency sent you to parliament is to make laws and push for things that will benefit them positively. So this is the time for them to experience your leadership to maybe get them our of the galamsey and position them at where they will be comfortable to get their daily marks, same as what they get from the galamsey sites.
As I posted some days back, no politician tries to deal with galamseyers and goes scot free. That politician will lose. This makes me timid for you as my MP to maintain your seat after dealing with them. But you need to help deal with it as a soon to be Deputy Minister and protect the lands and water bodies for generations yet unborn.
Prestea, Bogoso, Mbease Nsuta, Damang, Huni-Valley, Awudua, Bondaye and Efuke are some of the places galamsey is mostly practiced in the Prestea Huni-Valley District.
Good luck Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi. We shall work together.
